Kampala is preparing to dance to the rhythm of celebration once again, as the long-awaited return of the Kampala City Festival is now official.
The Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) has confirmed that the once-shelved urban festival is making a powerful comeback, and this yearโs edition is set to go beyond entertainment.
The announcement came from Sharifah Buzeki, KCCAโs new Executive Director, who revealed that the launch event will be held on 6th August 2025 at City Hall, where the actual festival date will also be revealed.
โWe are bringing back the city celebration not just as an event, but as a platform to honor our culture, innovation, creativity, and most importantly, the community spirit that defines Kampala,โ Buzeki stated.
The Kampala City Festival, once the heartbeat of East Africaโs urban events calendar, drew massive crowds for its dynamic street processions, vibrant art displays, live music, and culinary delights. Its return marks a pivotal cultural revival for the city. This time, organizers are promising something deeper and more meaningful.
โItโs not just about fun,โ Buzeki emphasized. โItโs about coming together as a city, recognizing how far weโve come, and renewing our collective commitment to building a cleaner and more liveable Kampala.โ
This renewed focus signals a shift in purpose from pure revelry to responsible celebration. KCCA insiders say this yearโs edition will place a strong spotlight on environmental stewardship, innovation from young people, and the voices of underserved communities.
Expect to see themed exhibits ranging from sustainable urban design to climate change education, youth entrepreneurship, and recycled fashion. The festival grounds will become not only a playground of joy but a platform for change.
Local creatives, vendors, and performersโmany of whom were financially impacted by the festivalโs suspensionโare expected to benefit significantly from the festivalโs return. The event is also likely to revitalize small businesses and inject new energy into the cityโs cultural and tourism economy.
As the 6th of August approaches, the excitement is growing. Residents are counting down not just to a festival announcement, but to the beginning of a new chapter in Kampalaโs cultural identity.
